Battle Arena Toshinden ,the animation

For one year, Master Swordman Eiji Shinjo has been haunted by the memory of his battle with the renegade champion, Gaia; a battle that was cut short by the forces of the malevolent syndicate known as "The Organization". Denied victory, Eiji left the tournament followed by his opponent's mocking laughter. Worse still, Eiji walked away no closer to finding his long-lost brother, Sho.

But now, a mysterious warrior is hunting down the champions of the previous tournament and using their own moves against them.

Who is this powerful new foe and who will be his next target? Eiji and Kayin Amoh; his closest friend and greatest rival attempt to unravel the mystery before they too join the ranks of the defeated. Their answer lies at the heart of the Organization and its plans. At last, the ultimate battle between the greatest fighters in the world may be decided.

Battle Arena Toshinden ,the first.

Eight travelling fighters brought together by a common destiny now meet at the Battle Arena Toshinden, a fighting tournament hosted by a mysterious organization known only as the the "Secret Society".

Many years have passed since this tournament, known only to those in the underworld, was last held.

Some fighters have come for personal glory. Others have come to fight for those they love, but all will do their best to be victorious in this tournament that will decide their fortunes.

Battle Arena Toshinden 2

When the Secret Society discovered that the chief executive of the group, Gaia, had organized a Toshinden tournament behind their backs in order to start a rebellion, he was branded a traitor. Hence a new tournament is organized to lure him to his doom. Meanwhile, one of Gaia's former co-workers, named Uranus, has put the next stage of the organization's plan into action and hopes to not only eliminate Gaia from existence, but also the other nine fighters who participated in the last battle.

Battle Arena Toshinden 3

Unknown to the participants, while the previous "tournament" was occurring, they were being watched by another sinister group simply known as the "Organization".

The Organization intended to summon their dark god to earth in order to wreak havoc.

In order to do this they needed a purehearted boy to use as a vessel and the blood of strong fighters.

For the former they targeted a boy named David.

For the latter, they chose the Toshinden fighters. The Organization trained assassins in the Toshinden fighters' fighting styles. Led by their leader Abel, they set out to try and capture the Toshinden fighters.

Battle Arena Toshinden 4

Eiji Shinjo, the new leader of an organization called the "Gerard Foundation", has organized a fourth Toshinden tournament which revolves around the gathering of four holy weapons that can be used to save the world or to destroy it. However, Eiji's old enemy from the third tournament ten years ago, Vermillion, is also after the four weapons. Can Eiji stop Vermillion before it's too late?

A plot point introduced in this game focused on the Four Sacred Arms. Though seen in full since Battle Arena Toshinden 2, their relevance was never previously brought up. Each weapon bears a reference to one of the Chinese cardinal beasts, Byakko, Suzaku, Seiryu and Genbu. The weapons also seem to change appearance depending on the user. While the Byakko no tachi (White Tiger Fang) is usually seen as a rather plain katana, the Seiryuu no yari (Azure Dragon Spear) was a long leaf tipped spear while held by Mondo, yet altered to an ornate golden rod in the hands of Eos. As a purely cosmetic addition, when using a certain attack, an image of the beast associated with the weapon will display in the background.
Plotwise, it was said that when all four weapons were gathered together, they would bestow tremendous power on a person. Most characters in the game have their endings based around uniting the weapons and receiving the power of them. In some endings, they use this power to speak to a parent or loved one. However, Eiji's ending reveals the true nature of the power behind the weapons: It is the "Toshin", or god of fighting. This being is definitely not the one worshipped by the main antagonist group of Toshinden 3, Agon Teos, since Vermilion makes a clear distinction between the two in his own ending.

Upcoming Sequel

A prequel to the Toshinden series was in early stages of pre-production in 1999, but was canceled shortly thereafter. The still unnamed foster father of Kayin Amoh and a teenage Sho Shinjo would have been the main protagonists.
